CPAS Availability At UBC
Updated: June 2022
-
CPAS consult via virtual care (IPAD on a stand in HAU) is available at UBCH on Tues/Thurs 1300-1600
-
CPAS coverage via telephone advice is available 7 days a week between 0900-1700 (reachable via VGH switchboard where you should ask for Emergency CPAS physician)
-
UBCH currently does not have CPAS physical presence
-
Please refer patients requiring CPAS involvement as early as possible (from ACC), indicating the date of surgery on the CPAS referral form.
-
Any patient on our POPS is cared for by us 24/7, just like at VGH: advice can be given nighttime remotely by N1, daytime in person by U1/POAU or, on weekends by VGH POPS (remotely or, if required, in person).
-
If a patient you look after in the OR has a high probability of needing specialized pain management, please put them on POPS. This will decrease the chance of needing to make middle of the night adjustments
-
Currently ketamine and IV lidocaine infusions are possible for patients in the UBCH HAU, but not if they are in ward beds.
-
Two categories of patients should be looked after at VGH only: SDA patients using street opioids (due to prescribed dose equivalency being impossible to determine); and those for whom an epidural is in your opinion indicated. Daycare patients are a different category, as outlined in the UBCH opioid guidelines.
